Au Revoir, Les Enfants

Getting ready to head for home after an improbable but wonderful week in Paris. So wish me Bon Voyage and (until less frivolous postings resume tomorrow) from 1979 enjoy the charmingly monikered first generation French punk band The Stinky Toys and their equally charming "Birthday Party."

I know what you're thinking -- who knew there even was a first generation French punk band? Well, in point of fact, these kids actually shared bills with the likes of The Clash, The Damned, The Buzzcocks and even, yes, The Sex Pistols. They never made much of an impact in the States, unfortunately; back in the day I actually bought an import copy of the album this is from strictly because I thought their name was just hilariously representative of what a bunch of Frenchies would think was cool and punk.

Incidentally -- and by way of justifying talking about them in the context of a film magazine -- adorable ST lead singer Elli Medeiros has gone on to star in a host of flicks since the late 70s, including, most recently, Pablo Trapero's powerful 2008 Argentine slice of prison life Leonera.

You're right -- that band really is cute.

Now please tell me why I'm up so late...

Just to show the kind of hairpin I am: While some eyes may be glued to Elli Medeiros, I am lusting after those Rickenbacker guitars. Très Magnifique!

Uncle -- Just between you and me and the wall, I had the same reaction. Those guitars had me drooling...

OK, count me as number three. I think I am officially old when I am more interested in Rickenbackers than young French women.

Nice new wave song though. I wonder if it would be better in French? Part of the charm is the interesting English, kind of like Shonen Knife.

I think the difference is that it may still be possible for me to one day have a Rickenbacker guitar.
