If It's Monday, It Must Be Shameless Filler (An Occasional Series)

Well, I learned two fairly interesting or alarming things this weekend, and being one of nature's noblemen, if not in fact (a la Robert Downey Sr.) A Prince, allow me to share them with you.
To begin with, we know that Mr. and Mrs. Affleck named their two actor sons Ben and Casey. For years I assumed this had no larger significance, until constant reader Nora Charles pointed out to me that the Afflecks must have been fans of this 60s TV doctor show starring the perpetually scowling Vince Edwards.
That is, of course, the boomer favorite Ben Casey. Coincidence? I think not!
Seriously -- if they had named the kids Mister and Ed, would we even be arguing this?
But now, time out for Steve's Movie Reviews©!!!
Quantum of Solace -- Spoiler Alert: Bond has sex with a man. He has to -- he needs a ride.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas -- Another delightful kids Holocaust movie. In fact, the only way it could be more delightful is if Oscar-winning funnyman Roberto Benigni showed up to remind us all that yes, life is beautiful.
But I digress. In any case, what else did I learn this weekend? Well, I am, of course, familiar with the concept of fan fiction, which can be all sorts of things but mostly comes down to dirty stories by amateur writers in which Xena, Warrior Princess finally gets it on with her cute little sidekick Gabrielle, or Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock turn up in shall we say odd positions on an alien planet (if you know what I mean).
What I discovered just yesterday, however, is that there is apparently a similar underground movement surrounding the 60s animated sitcom The Flintstones. This involves transgressively-minded techno-geeks dubbing inappropriately foul-mouthed dialogue from contemporary motion pictures into the mouths of Fred, Wilma and Barney. What the kids today call a mash-up, I believe.
Herewith, my favorite example, with a couple of classic scenes from Martin Scorsese's 1980 famously vernacular Raging Bull. Caution: The following clip contains XXX rated language and raises possible copyright issues.
Incidentally, when Raging Bull plays on network TV -- at least in the Tri-State New York area -- the concluding scene above features a dubbed Robert DeNiro asking Joe Pesci the poignant if confusing question "Did you meet my wife?"

I've seen that version out here in Gullyfoneya, too.
Right up there with the "edited" network version of "Godfather" where Sonny says "I don't my brother coming out of there with just a stick in his hand"...

Just found out about your blog from Glen and am already avid reader. It's great to "read" from you again! Haven't enjoyed a music review since yours of "Wet Money" by the Rock Club.
