Shameless Monday Filler: Special Labor Day Edition
posted September 7, 2009 6:11 AM
These days Sally Fields is probably best known for a series of commercials about some pill she takes once a month for her bone density or some such.
Okay, not to be dismissive, the pill in question is Boniva, which I'm sure is a perfectly splendid drug.
Ibandronic acid or ibandronate sodium, marketed under the trade names Boniva, Bondronat and Bonviva, is a potent bisphosphonate drug used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. It may also be used to treat hypercalcemia (elevated blood calcium levels). It is marketed and manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and Roche Laboratories. Global sales in 2008 were 1.1B CHF ($1.0B USD at 01/01/2009 exchange rates)
But in any case, here's Fields here in a clip from her 1979 Oscar-winning performance as the reluctant labor organizer and heroine Norma Rae that just...well, seems relevant to our current political debates on a couple of levels.
Including bone density, now that I think of it.
You can order a DVD of the film -- which holds up pretty well, actually -- over here.
And Happy Labor day, everybody.
