January's not too early to think "March"
The official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners, internationally known as NATO, is just weeks away from its March 12-13 celebration in Las Vegas.
Exhibition players - theater owners, circuit managers, in-house staff, and the myriad of vendors who service the industry are currently reserving seating and display accommodations at what appears to be ramping up as one of NATO’s largest ever.
The schedule already lists several special events and plans include an extensive trade show layout. Under “Seminar Schedule,” first listed, is “Digital Cinema.” This was the hit topic at 2007’s ShowEast in Orlando. It was discussed in all venues from the screenwriter’s conference to planned workshops that hosted full-auditoriums, with attendees returning for more.
Circuits which remain uninformed about the expanding application of digital in mainstream theaters will be able to gather what appears to be the forefront of a gigantic change in the exhibition industry. As the expanding development and availability of digital products seem to indicate, it is time to investigate the truth about this technology. At ShoWest, there is at least the opportunity to become familiar with its practical application at all levels of exhibition.
There will also be a Preview of Summer 2008 presented by various studios and distributors as they conduct screenings and discussions. And attendees should not overlook the opportunity to see and try some of the new concession products which, if they entice the exhibitor, may also attract theater-goers looking for a new tasty delight.
Most exhibitors will find this the supreme opportunity to meet and greet representatives at all levels of expertise within their own field -- local independent operators, regional theater groups, the largest of the large circuits, studio heads, distributors
Those wanting to garner marketing ideas, discuss personnel management skills, or even hear how to counter the popularity of that new multiplex down the street will meet their needs by attending and rubbing elbows in Las Vegas at ShoWest 2008.
