Revolver to Use Dolby Direct Distribution Services to Set New Eco-Friendly Benchmark
posted June 22, 2009 10:20 AM
AMSTERDAM -- Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) today announced that Revolver Entertainment, a United Kingdom-based “all rights” distribution company, will use Dolby® Direct Distribution Services digital cinema satellite delivery to distribute its forthcoming documentary movie Big River Man.
Big River Man, which earned the world cinema cinematography award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, is the story of Slovenian swimmer Martin Strel who swims the length of the Amazon River. In keeping with the movie’s ecological theme, Revolver Entertainment has committed to work in partnership with Dolby to distribute the movie in a new and exciting way.
“The movie will be mastered by Dolby in the US and then transmitted directly to Dolby’s UK center,” said Carly Morell, Head of Operations, Revolver Entertainment. “From there, Dolby’s UK mastering facility will produce the Digital Cinema Package and then transmit this by satellite to digital cinemas around the UK–eliminating air freight and couriers used to transport 35mm film and hard drives containing digital prints. This will reduce Big River Man's carbon footprint and further help to reinforce Martin Strel’s green message.”
With Dolby’s Direct Distribution Services, Revolver hopes to set a new benchmark for eco-friendly cinemas. This satellite-only method of distribution greatly reduces the environmental impact associated with the terrestrial method of delivering film to exhibitors.
“We are committed to using Dolby’s satellite distribution service as our only means of distribution for this movie as we believe it is the most eco-friendly and efficient way to deliver digital content to multiple sites across the UK,” said Morell.
Big River Man is scheduled to open in the UK on 4 September. For more information, visit the film's official website.
