Unplanned Baby Steps Begin with VOD

Catch the main goal steeped in optimism
I'll start with an apology because this report won't be about a double feature. Today's theme is "Baby Steps," you'll see why.
If you followed my earlier report, then you know that this filmfest is everything but usual. A Video On Demand festival over the internet, with no official program. You choose what you want to see and when. Sounds weird at first, but it has its merits, and tricks. You see, for today I planned a two movie eyeball training, but life interfered twice.
First came the surprising news that the festival lost a movie, The Trial of Tony Blair a mockumentary set in the near future when the Brittish ex-prime minister is facing the court of Hague for war crimes against Iraqi civilians, (happens when President Hillary Clinton is no friend of yours). A satiric promise I'll miss seeing. If by some miracle it'll become available I'll be more than happy to tell you if it's worth it.
The second reason is a praise of this flexible format. A chapter in my 3D experiment that will hopefully enrich a piece I'm doing for January, suddenly came at me. It would be nearly impossible seeing two films and writing my thoughts without losing my beauty sleep badly. Luckily the two incidents cohesioned into a solution: double feature in the weekend, Reprise this day.
Norwegian Joachim Trier's movie from 2006 about two young and starting writers in Oslo is as unpredictable as today. A surprisingly well-photographed thinker flick with many ifs. What would happen if you take a turn here or there? It feels like karma that I chose this for today. Entire sequences are played experimentally with a narration in conditional manner. The WHAT IF is always more rich and interesting than the IT IS. When you're finally pulled back to the point where the thought-sequence started, believe me, it hurts! An open ending seems like a must, but a big plus is the unpredictability and the experimentation vein.
Back to the opening day, this enterprise feels like it's only opening its wings, to give you a catachresis. The chatters were a bit unsure whether this VOD format will work at all, not just the festival, but the whole concept.
With only 4 percent of the Hungarian box-office income it looks like an anomaly, yet Peter Bognar, executive of Budapest Film was optimistic as he set the main goal: get the movies to small towns countrywide where there is no cinema -- but if there's the web and a home entertainment system, you've got your theatre!
Back in the day when the first televisions appeared, the neighbours came from the entire village, street, or whatever to watch the glowing box. It was an event, at least in this part of the world. Will this be a second coming? I doubt it, but, man, I would love to be wrong on this one!
Saturday will be the double feature, folks, if fate doesn't interfere once more.
