Digital -- It Isn't Only for the Screen

Inside or outside, they've got you covered
Film medium and projections aren't the only thing going digital. Prominent at ShowEast this year, were displays of technology for behind-the-scenes workings of the theater business.
Venue, a long-standing theater management system, has on display their new touch-screen cashier system, designed to include ticket sales, concessions, scheduling and more within the system.
Representatives say that within the Venue system, statistics for turnouts are recorded as sales proceed, logging useful information for owners and distributors.
Venue is also promoting software which provides promotional screen stills for the attractions which may be displayed on Venue screens above the individual screening rooms.
And for the more hands-on consumer, South American company Cinestar is hitting the American market with touch-screen technology that may be installed inside or outside of an establishment (the hardware is described as "moisture proof").
A customer is able to order his or her tickets and snacks in the same advance transaction via the Cinestar software. A credit card swipe is installed on the side, and within the system is the availability for promotional codes and a gift card system, controlled by the theater.
From there, the receipt or ticket print out can be taken inside and redeemed for purchases.
