Checking the checklist
I live for checklists. I can't get anything done without them. So, that's what I've been doing today, and some of it has been successful.
Secure a location for the exercise video - check. Get that final signature for the shooting permit on my street - check. Get in touch with my missing Art Director - an eventual check.
It's incredibly exciting that the locations have started coming together. The donut shop thing is still up in the air only because I'm adamant about shooting at a Krispy Kreme. Our shot list was tailored specifically to the layout of their building, and, come on, there's a donut conveyer belt. The production value of the donut shop scenes will really benefit from getting that location.
We do, however, have a back up if the Krispy Kreme thing doesn't work out. I've been completely blown away by my production coordinator, Christine, who has really taken the slack of this production and pulled it all back together. I'm meeting with her on Tuesday to go over some final budgeting issues, but she just continues to astound me.
For instance, she somehow got Publix to donate several cases of water for all three days of our production. In my experience, water is one of the major costs on set, and there never seems to be enough of it. The fact that I'll save some beverage cash for the shoot will allow us to put that money elsewhere, and considering how low budget this thing is, that's going to be a big help.
Anyway, for every one task I've gotten checked off of my list, there are five more I still have to get done, like the massive undertaking of redoing all of the paper work to get rid of my former producer's signatures and locking down a date for shooting the exercise video ahead of the actual production.
The next two weeks are going to be a lot of work, but as long as we continue to check things off the list, I believe everything will be ready when the cameras start to roll.
