Animation does not make the tale of a loser more interesting
An animated loser named Lou (Chad Fifer) suffers a number of loser mishaps, as is traditional in live-action comedies about losers who rise to the occasion after suffering a number of loser mishaps. The fact that The Chosen One is animated makes this premise no more interesting. The fact that the animation is that ultra-one-dimensional style wherein everything and everyone is vaguely facing forward, as is the case in the popular South Park series, makes it no more interesting, either. The several quasi-notable voice actors employed, including Tim Curry, Lance Henriksen, Chris Sarandon, Laura Prepon and the great Traci Lords, surprisingly, doesn’t make it anymore interesting, either. Collectively, this leads one to the conclusion that, despite all evidence to the contrary, The Chosen One is not interesting. And will make an appropriate amount of money at the box office.
Particularly not interesting in The Chosen One is its premise, which follows this loser, Lou, on a journey that leads him to an eccentric church whose leader tells him that he’s The Chosen One. To say anymore would not only spoil the film, it would suggest that I care. Suffice it to say that Lou is God, but prefers to be human.
In addition to the fact that this badly animated post-modernist neo-new wave religious diatribe requires one to believe in a God (even if it is you), it requires one to believe in a lazy, stupid God.
What, may we ask, is the point of that?

Well, I saw this movie at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con Film Festival and found it to be funny and original. It's an entertaining and unique little film -- in spite (or maybe because) of the fact that it lacks Pixar-like production values: more than you can say for most films being released these days. Big points for originality and taking a chance with some thought provoking content... all of which combine to make it interesting.
My review of the above review: NOT INTERESTING.
