I don't think you're giving the movie enough credit for what it's worth. You're 29, OBVIOUSLY you're not going to enjoy a musical that's targeted to younger Disney-channel watching kids. And for that audience, the movie was great.

While the age group comment is valid, I still think that this movie hold little to no value even for those frighteningly giddy little girls who enjoy it. All this movie does is reinforce overly-positive stereotypes (a practice that has kept Disney in business for a long long time) and completely hides from any possible issue that any real person might have to deal with. However much these pre-teens might enjoy this movie it does not hold 'value' for them any more than Friday the Thirteenth over 9000 did for those who like such pointless horror movies. This franchise was overdone before even the second movie came out by the first movie and by almost every show on the Disney channel and Nickelodeon. It is nothing more than another brainless cash-cow made by the Disney company.

This movie is one of Disney's many excuses for "good stuff" right besides Miley Cyrus and some other crap. I've seen both the previous movies and do not plan on watching this though I'm not gonna hear the end of this from the 13 year old teenage girls.

What do you think movies are made for? They are for entertainment. They don't have to follow things that happen in real life. That would be boring. Disney does a great job of thinking outside the box. They are making millions because they are doing it better than most people and definitely better than you or me. If you could make movies better than others than why aren't you? Or do you already have millions of dollars and don't need to? We all want to reach for the stars and dream big. If not, then what do we have to look forward to in life. Disney must not be too brainless. They have the money - do you?

We took our 7 year old daughter and our 3 year old son to the movie this afternoon. The movie was sold out at the 1:30 matinee. There were a lot of older folks there as well as other dad's. Being a dad, 37, and having seen the other two HSM's a dozen times while working around the house, I thought the third was better than the other two. The movie was a little more serious, almost caught myself a little teary eyed a few times. My wife said the same during and after the movie. HSM fans won't be disappointed. The songs were great and our daughter loved it.

I saw it twice today! I loved it so much! I am tired of people talking mess about it, because "they" thought that it was too childish. I say Bull! I am 20 years old and I love it so much! Even the people around me, who were in their late fifties(i asked) loved it! They were too planning to see it again. This is by far the greatest movie of the year! Perfect movie for any occasion! They need to keep dreaming and remain positive and that is Disney's intents with feel good movies. Those harping on the critic for his negative review with comments such as, "if you don't like it ,THEN DON'T WATCH IT!" or "if you don't have anything nice to say, than don't say anything at all" should know it is this critic's job to go out and watch movies, whether he likes them or not, and give his review on them. It doesn't matter if it's meant for his age group or even if doesn't suit his personal style. He's also paid to say "not nice" things if he didn't like what he saw.

Also, the "if you don't like it ,THEN DON'T WATCH IT!" comments don't make sense. How would he have known if he would actually dislike the movie before he watched it? It's a little too late to tell someone, who has watched a movie and not liked it, to not watch it. Good luck to those critics who can travel back in time. If only we can all get back those precious hours we had lost in watching things we didn't like.

A lot of these commentators sound personally offended by this critic's review. Why the hostility? He said his piece - you disagree. That's fine. It's your right to disagree, even vent your passion about the movie. Considering this critic may not have had a choice in watching the movie, I understand his negative response.

Personally, I am looking forward to seeing HSM3 and I'm pretty certain I will enjoy it tremendously. This critic's review isn't going to change my mind. But it's obviously bothering enough people to slander him with nonsensical rhetoric. Hey. I went with 10 of my HIGH SCHOOL friends. I am 15 myself and i thought it was a great movie. All of my friends thought it was lame at first but when we were talking after they all thought it was great. Dont be haten on HSM. Yeah its from Disney but what did you watch when you were 5? They obviously have to watch it at least once to decide if they do or they don't. After seeing it once, he will probably decide not to watch it ever again. You shouldn't be criticizing a movie that you went into it with a bad outlook and let alone not in your age group. Let's face is HSM3 is a good, clean, cute movie to watch with your family. I agree entirely with RK, every movie must be judged according to its target audience and if that is not you, then obviously you will probably not enjoy the movie. In that case, it should be judged on what it is worth for the audience it is intended.

i think your stupid. this movie wasnt made for 29 yr. olds. it was made for 13 year old girls like me. this review is awful. i am a 13 year old girl and i love the movie! i thought it was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. the director and the movie writer didnt target a 29 year old audience,they targeted a 13 year old audience and thats what they got. so even if you dont like it is still a great movie because there goal was to get kids my age(not yours) to watch and love this movie and thats what they got. so if you actually think about it, this movie was excellent!

I'm 27 years old, right there in your age group. I was going to see this on opening night and even made arrangements for my 2 little ones to be babysit, but plans fell through and *gasp* I had to see it the next day. None the less, I love HSM 1, 2, & 3. Yes I've spoken to a lot of people my age who do not like it, but I love any movie that has a solid love story in it - regardless of the age group. And I love this movie, a lot.

The movie is great for the teenagers of this time period, providing solid examples of how to treat others who are different and how to work together. While some of it is over the top, what movie isn't, I like the overall message that the movie projects and I can watch this movie with my 2 little ones when they get older without any issue. Oh, and can I say I love the music and dancing? Yes I love these kinds of movies -- I just enjoyed it for what it was. Wasn't trying to discover the meaning of life through this movie.

There were both young girls and guys in the theater and many parents too, which I'm sure they appreciated this good feel movie, over a horror or violence packed movie. I think the only way we are going to see real criticism for this movie, is from those who would typically enjoy this type of movie. Not from someone not even remotely into this type of movie, with singing and dancing, and just all over cliches of mass proportions -- which I don't mind in a movie and find quite comical to see sometimes.

It is hard to find a movie which I don't like for what it is. I find entertainment in many different movie types. Though having a Netflix subscription, I can say you should go watch those 2 star rated movies and you'll find something truly horrendous to write about. The fact that you've written anything about this movie, speaks volumes in the way that it was worth something to you to write about.

i thought this movie was actually really sad, the kiss at the end was not very G rated tho. The ended was the only part of the movie that really ticked me off, the whole movie was pretty good up until the ending when they broke into a corny song called "High school Musical" I tried to get my boyfriend to go but no luck (I think he missed out)I didnt think the movie was fantastic by anymeans I though i thought it was really good. I completely understand him not liking this movie. He probably is a guy who loves good solid acting and story movies, who can blame him?

I'm 23 and I don't see why everyone hates on disney so what if it's not as dark or not as vulgar as movies of today.I personally hate rated-r comedies yet critics rave and love them. Why does everything have to be so realistic and grown. Is that what the average critic want their children to see. I love the innocence the movie has regarding friendship and young love that is often lost in the movies of today.

Reality check!!! Please people that wrote about how the movie did not resemble reality in high school maybe right. Because the movies that's been out there in the past decade or two for high school or younger kids have highlighted the bad kids and their suffering because of their own doing and their disfunctional families. Let me just say, I am a huge fan of musicals and Broadway. I took a friend's sister to see this. It's not a good movie or musical, honestly. The songs themselves have no real substance and are just as cliche as the characters. The music is Disney-manufactured and thus not anything really rememberable.

I will give them some credit on a few bits of choreography, however.

If you really review this movie in the vision of what you would expect of a really good movie (like good acting, directing, writing...)you'll see that HSM3 it's a simple movie in these criteria, the movie itself is made for the masses and tryes to please everyone that it cans, making it easy to understand and simple to like it or even love it. Are you serious? You have got to be kidding. If you choose to use the argument "don't say anything if you can't say anything nice" or "why do you watch the movie if you don't like it" or something else along those lines, your maturity level must be that of a three year olds. Firstly, the job of a critic is to give his opinion. If you do not like his opinion, why did you read it? Well, you have to read it first in order to know whether you like it or not, just like any critic has to watch a movie first in order to decide whether he likes the movie. Secondly, if you do not like his review then don't make mean comments because that would be contradicting yourself with the "don't say anything unless it's nice" argument. I just would like to say that I did enjoy the music and dancing in HSM3. Though- the plot lacked a TON and the movie seemed like a bunch of different music videos.

I would not say that it was terrible though. I am usually for the plot...but seeing all the big musical numbers really did amaze me. The singing was also amazing as well.

You go a little over the top on attacking the movie though. You should've known by the High School Musical tag that it isn't your type of movie (by the sound of what you wrote). So I question why you went in the first place. Why did you expect anything more than over the top acting and musical numbers along with a not-so-carefully thought out plot?

If I were to give it a rating- I would at least give it 3 and a half stars. It's a ton of fun, and sometimes that's what we need in movies.

(If you are looking for a movie filled with dancing and crazy overdone musical numbers- and not so worried with a well thought out plot- go and see HSM3 it'll be worth your time and money.)

First thatguy said it was a cash cow, and you reinforced his statement by saying they would make billions.

Second, he is giving his opinion on a subject, not saying he can do a better job. It takes a special skill to make movies. But coming up with the idea for a movie is easy.

Third, he never said disney is brainless. He said they are giving what the public wants so will make big bucks. That's clever even if it is immoral since the movie encourages false beliefs.

Grease and HSM3 fall into the same category. So why can kids not relate to Grease?

Both are musicals in high schools. Both have positive meanings. The only problem with Grease is the smoking. Grease has lots of good values like teamwork, changing yourself to get who you love, and having fun.

What does HSM3 have. DOn't respond by saying it has everything or you are stupid or hot boys. They do not really help your argument.

I really feel bad for critics.
No matter what they say, there's always something rude to say back.
Why? I just don't know. It states what's going to happen with a list of people who are in the movie. The critic agrees, or disagrees about liking it. Then all these people, (mainly women who cling to emotional sad movies and has nothing better to do but complain about something) gets on and complains about how this review sucked.
I enjoyed reading regardless if i concurred with it or not.

This assault on a guy offering his opinion is ridiculous... you cannot make judgements on his character by doing what he has been paid to do.

Hi!!!! HELLO!!!!!! Reality check Mr. jaded 29 yr old...it's a movie!! A movie made to entertain children, it's fictional not based on fact!! No different that almost any other movie people go to see. Like every day people go on some crazy ass adventure as seen in so many flicks today. GET OVER YOURSELF!!! Personally as a 31 year old mom I thought it was cute (as it should be)and i thought it was appropriate for my 9 yr old. As a mom and lover of good musicals this series of movies has helped me introduce my daughter to the classsics such as The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady, she even enjoyed West Side Story although she was sad about Tony dying. We are going to wait alittle while before bringing Grease around though. My point is this was a very cute movie intended for kids but that can be enjoyed by all with the right frame of mind!1

Who cares what anyone of you think. Its good and fun for kids(wow now thats a novelty). No one is forcing you to go to see it

Two of our familes saw HSM3 along with 6 of our own kids and teenagers (including boys) and 5 of their friends. There were a lot of college-aged men and women there as well as parents. All of the younger movie goers agreed that HSM3 was the best of the series. Honestly, I rated it as being the best I've seen in a theatre in a while. Don't expect a lot of CGI, special effects, sex or violence (must be what makes Marco get his box of stars out). HSM1 and 2 were so efficiently made that it seemed like dialog was added to make it feature length, and introducing three new co-stars (obviously headliners for HSM 4) added humor but were a bit awkward. A little more time with the script would have improved the movie (but then again this fell into the timeframe of the writer's strike). The one thing that interruped our experience was the Cinemark theatre used film rather than DLP, and half of the screen was out of focus. I complained vigerously to the manager/projectionist who appologized and gave us rain checks but didn't fix the focus problem for that showing. (I was a projectionist for many years and thus meticulus about production and presentation quality). The film itself was refreshingly good. We had a great time watching as a family and we'll return to see it again this weekend and will buy HSM3 on Blu-Ray in December. Yes, we bought the soundtrack as well. There really isn't room for sex, violence, CGI or special effects in this movie. It has amazing dancing that's not found in films of this era. My wife LOVED the dancing number with waltzing. The cast have incredible talent for singing and dancing. Given more filming time (very tight film schedule) the acting and story would have been a bit better. Overall, I still rate it 4 of 5 stars (not knocking off anything for focus problems and sub-standard projector color and brightness). Believe me, the majority of movies I see lately I feel are a waste of money. (Wall-E was a total rip off) PG-13 thru R rated movies now days are pieces of crap that are just remakes of other shows with gobs of CGI and special effects that make them watchable. Marco must have to wear a bib to these movies so his shirt isn't wet with drool. HSM3 is filled with incredibly excellent talent, light humor, great escapism back to our high-school days, excellent choreography and messages that we all need to learn - arrogant snobs have feelings too and the true meaning of friendship and love (Hollywood and Marco seems to think everything is about sex).

Most of wut he's saying is true, but if you don't like it, don't see it! its that simple. I'm not saying this movie is good, cuz its obviously not that great. But seriously, if your obsessing over HSM and you know every single song from the franchise by heart, get a life and move on.

I get your point, but I wouldn't say it's terrible. The targeted audience is obviously far from your age group, hence the title, "HIGH SCHOOL Musical." Even if it really is sexually toned down compared to live-and-in-color high schools, the music is catchy, and Kenny Ortega is one amazing choreographer. You're right about the hormone-hyped, pre-teen girls, though. If you watch them when Zac Efron comes out, I guarantee at least one of them will giggle and blush, as if he'll marry her someday. Although I haven't paid 10 dollars for a ticket - and an extra 5 or 10 for food to muffle my disappointed cries when I see a bad arabesque - I wouldn't go as far as to say it deserves a failing grade. I think [most of] the actors are...decent, at least. I'm just surprised that no one has commented on how much Hudgens has changed since her little photo scandal. Anyway, enough of my gigantic spiel. I like your writing style.

Well I read this review and forum because I wanted to know in advance how much I would dislike this movie. I, like the author of the review, am not in the target age group of this picture. I feel after reading the comments that I might be able to get through it alive so thank you for you comments specifically Aeka. You seemed like a logically minded individual that was able to appreciate the film.
As for the majority of the posters wow. You ignorance and inexperience is astounding. Most of all "some1" at the top of the forum. Your dumb, Greece was made for the same age group just during a different time period and shares many of the movies plot lines.

I happen to be a fan of HSM (series).. I love the movie. Zac's 21 yrs old, and I am young. I am 16 yrs old. Yes, HSM might be a little baby-ish.., But a lot of adult/teenagers and grownups watch this. You may not like him.., but do you realize that half of the world loves Zac Efron.... I know this 21 yr old teenager that watches Disney Channel... (Wizards Of Waverley Place, Hannah Montana, etc)... So, it's not a problem. It's a musical. Bringing back Music... Learning that you can be anything you want to be without giving up or changing yourself to fit in. Troy, and Gabriella got a long well. Troy was a basketball Jock.. He plays for the basketball team as well, but he also realized that he enjoys singing... Troy completely changes. Gabriella isn't shy, and she's becoming more independent. Sharpay is still a queen bee, and wants everything, but she wants to go to Julliard. Ryan, wants to major in singing, and dancing.... Zeke wants too cook. Everything's changing. Breaking out of their shell. This movie help teenagers to be them-self. Not somebody else wants them to be. So, I think this movie is a great, and whatever you guys say about HSM, HSM2, HSM 3- Senior Year.. I don't care. But, you are missing out on a chance to see the NUMBER 1 BOX OFFICE MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!! REMEMBER..... NUMBER 1......
