Considering that The X-Files: I Want to Believe has been one of the biggest disappointments of the summer with a total gross so far of around $20 million, it comes as no surprise that if a third film is made it would be headed straight to DVD. According to Dread Central, series writer Frank Spotnitz said that there is talk of making a third film but that it would probably not receive a theatrical release. Meanwhile, series star David Duchovny will appear this September in the second season of Californication and Gillian Anderson appears opposite Simon Pegg and Kirsten Dunst in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, which opens October 3rd.
