Michael Pitt (Funny Games) is now reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to join Steve Buscemi in Martin Scorsese's HBO pilot, Boardwalk Empire.

The project comes from a script by The Sopranos vet Terrence Winter, who will also serve as an executive producer alongside Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson. Wahlberg is also one of the producers of HBO's Entourage.
Even though the film did not catch on commercially, Pitt won favorable reviews for his role as a homicidal sociopath in Funny Games. The young actor has also appeared in such indies as Gus Van Sant's Last Days and The Dreamers.
Boardwalk Empire certainly has the pedigree to fill the gap that was left by The Sopranos when it aired its final episode on June 10, 2007.
