The Academy Award-nominated actress will play an important woman in the life of John Lennon.

Coming after her critically acclaimed performance in 2008's I've Loved You So Long, Kristin Scott Thomas is now reportedly attached to play John Lennon's Aunt Mimi in Nowhere Boy.

Boy focuses on the early life of Lennon, including his rise to stardom. Newcomer Aaron Johnson will tackle the role of the iconic musician. Sam Taylor Wood is directing from a script by Matt Greenhalgh.

In recent years, music biopics have fared pretty well at the box office. Walk the Line grossed $119.5 million domestically in 2005 ($132 million when adjusted for inflation), and it also earned an Oscar for Reese Witherspoon. In 2004, Ray brought in $75.3 million, which equals around $86 million when adjusted for inflation. Jamie Foxx also took home the Best Actor prize for his performance in the film.

Whether or not Johnson will be able to deliver a performance that has the same weight as Witherspoon's or Foxx's obviously remains to be seen. Although, the support of an experienced actress such as Thomas will certainly help him through any difficulties.

This month, another musical biopic with a newcomer playing the lead role will hit theatres. Notorious follows the life of rapper Christopher "Notorious B.I.G." Smalls, and Wallace is being played by Jamal Woolard. The Fox Searchlight release should fare pretty well at the box office thanks to the very loyal Wallace fan base.
