Rising young stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are currently in talks to star in the Fox 2000/New Regency Production Love and Other Drugs. The two last teamed together in 2005’s Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain, which grossed $83 million domestically. Love, adapted from the book by Jamie Reidy, will tell the true story of a pharmaceuticals salesman who falls in love with a woman diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Gyllenhaal’s last screen appearance was in 2007’s Rendition, which failed to surpass the $10 million mark in the U.S. despite Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep co-starring. He will be seen later this year in director Jim Sheridan’s Brothers.
Hathaway recently finished working with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter onAlice in Wonderland, to be released in 2010. Her last film, Bride Wars with Kate Hudson, performed well at the box office, grossing more than $58 million domestically.
Director Edward Zwick will helm the project, coming off of his 2008 film Defiance, which only managed a $28.6 million domestic haul.
