Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston will star alongside Miley Cyrus in Disney’s The Last Song, an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel that will hit bookshelves this fall. In the film, Cyrus’ character is sent to live with her father (Kinnear) for the summer, and the two repair their previously defunct relationship through music.
Song will mark the fifth development of a Sparks novel, but it will be the first in which the high-profile author pens the script from his own work. Nights in Rodanthe, Sparks’ last adaptation starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, grossed $41.8 million domestically after its release in the fall of 2008.
Kinnear’s role will likely be worlds apart from his father-figure gig in Little Miss Sunshine, a comedy about a dysfunctional family that raked in a pair of Oscars in 2006, not to mention a box office haul of $59.9 million in the U.S.
