Angelina Jolie is currently in talks to replace Charlize Theron in the upcoming thriller The Tourist, a project Theron has decided to leave despite being committed to it for so long.

The Tourist, a remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer, is about an American tourist who goes undercover for Interpol to entrap a former flame who's a suspected global criminal. Jolie, who does not have any roles lined up after Salt, would play the female lead opposite Sam Worthington, who picked up the male lead after Tom Cruise dropped it.

The Spyglass-produced film, on which production is tentatively scheduled to begin early next year, is also in the hunt for a new director after Bharat Nalluri left the project last week.

Jolie’s action/thriller film of last year, Wanted, earned $339 million worldwide.
