Paul Blart: Mall Cop helmer Steve Carr is set to take the reigns on the remake of 1986's robot comedy Short Circuit at Dimension Films.
The original starred Ally Sheedy as a young woman who helps a robot reconnect with his creator (Steve Guttenberg) and avoid the malevolent factory workers trying to capture him. The original film's screenwriters S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock (the minds behind the Tremors franchise) were previously reported to be writing the remake, but the final screenplay was written by Dan Milano (of TV's "Robot Chicken").
The original grossed $40.6 million in the US (approximately $78.7 million when adjusted for inflation). The remake is slated to be released in 2011.
