Reese Witherspoon has signed on to star in and produce Rule #1, a Fox Screenlight picture about a New York woman who befriends a Puerto Rican girl with attention deficit disorder. Searchlight just acquired the screenplay from its writer, Terry Seltzer, who also wrote the How I Got Into College and co-wrote One Fine Day.

Through her production company, Type A Films, Witherspoon has produced such films as Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, Penelope and Four Christmases, and is also developing Around the World in 80 Dates at Universal.
Most recently, Witherspoon voiced the character of Susan Murphy/Ginormica Monsters vs. Aliens, which earned $374 million worldwide. She can be seen next alongside Paul Rudd in the untitled James L. Brooks film when it hits theaters in December 2010.
