Comedy star Dan Aykroyd has signed onto John Landis' dark horror-comedy Burke and Hare, alongside the previously cast Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Star Trek) and David Tennant (just wrapping up his stint as the lead on "Doctor Who") as Burke and Hare, respectively.
The film marks Aykroyd and Landis' seventh collaboration, the most notable being The Blues Brothers (and its sequel) and Trading Places (with Eddie Murphy). It also marks Landis' first theatrical fictional feature since Blues Brothers 2000 in 1998 (Susan's Plan, also known as Dying to Get Rich, was also planned for theaters in 1998, but ultimately premiered on video). The plot follows two 19th-century grave-robbers who scheme to get rich selling cadavers to an Edinburgh medical school.
Blues Brothers 2000 was a theatrical flop, earning only $13.9 million in the US against a $28 million budget. No doubt Landis, Pegg, Tennant and Aykroyd are hoping for a warmer reception when Burke and Hare opens in 2010.
