Gerard Butler has signed on to star in Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut Coriolanus, a modern version of Shakespeare's Roman tragedy. Butler will play Tullus Aufidius, commander of the Volscian army.

Coriolanus, which starts shooting in Serbia in March, already boasts an impressive cast, including William Hurt, Eddie Marsan, Jessica Chastain, Vanessa Redgrave and Fiennes himself.
Butler, who already graced the big screen in The Ugly Truth and Gamer this year, is arguably most famous for his role in 300 as an abdominal-baring Spartan. He can currently be seen in Law Abiding Citizen, which is now in theaters.
