Three pitches for three different, unrelated comedies from Aziz Ansari (Parks and Recreation, Funny People) and Jason Woliner, who teamed up for the cult favorite Human Giant sketch show, have been picked up by Universal and comedy juggernaut Judd Apatow. The duo will write at least one of the films, while Woliner will direct. One is a spin-off of Ansari's character in the Apatow-directed Funny People, one is as-of-yet untitled and the other will be called Let's Do This.
Though an Apatow comedy almost always promises big numbers, his force seems to have waned recently. Funny People was a very public quasi-flop, making only $69 million worldwide, just shy of making back its budget. But next year's Get Him to the Greek, which Ansari will also be in, may put him back on top as a producer. The primary concern for this trio of films may be that Woliner has only directed for TV.
