'Twilight' Films To Play on FX

Television network FX recently struck a deal with Summit Entertainment for the TV rights to all four Twilight films, a package deal that also includes Knowing, Push and Oscar contender The Hurt Locker. While the network will begin running the first Twilight in late 2011, New Moon will start playing in 2012. Then next year's Eclipse will run in 2013.

FX may be taking a very high stakes gamble on how long America will love the popular franchise. Since licensing fees are proportional to box office numbers, and assuming Eclipse and the yet-to-be-greenlit Breaking Dawn will do as astronomically well as New Moon (which made a projection-shattering $142.8 million over this past weekend), FX could be looking at spending upwards of $100 million for the set.
Summit is added to FX's studio repertoire, which also includes Marvel Studios and DreamWorks Animation. The network recently acquired the rights to 2012 as well.
