'This Is It' to Hit DVD on Jan. 26

Despite speculation that Sony would push out the DVD and Blu-ray of Michael Jackson doc This Is It before Christmas season, the studio has announced the release date of the highly-anticipated DVD: January 26. The disc will include numerous supplementary documentaries, among other special features, and the Blu-ray will have two versions of the "Thriller" and "Smooth Criminal" videos. The DVD will carry with it a price tag of $28.96, the Blu-ray $39.95.

The shift to the post-Christmas season shouldn't do much to stop the sales of This Is It, which has turned out to be one juggernaut of a film. The doc has already made $239 million across the globe and, since it's still playing in many theaters, shows no signs of losing popularity. Sony is hoping that shoppers will use all those holiday-themed gift certificates for this DVD/Blu-ray and, if the film continues to perform as it has in the past months, they'll probably be right.
